Matthew 10:26-28 “So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known. What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops. Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” This episode talks about bringing those negative thoughts you have into the light so you can get rid of them and you can take away their power. Into The Light
Matthew 10:26-28 “So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known. What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops. Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
Fear is something that we all struggle with. It’s something that can just sneak up on us when we are not expecting it. It can come out of no where. Sometimes our fears are based on actual things that have happened to us and sometimes they are based upon things we feel may happen to us in the future. Either way, the fear is very real and can be scary. When we feel fear we can turn to the Lord, and He can take there fear from us or He can give us the strength to face that fear. We never know which He will do. It depends on what we need at that particular time.
I like how this verse says that nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known. Many people have fears around secrets. People worry that their secrets will be found out and other people worry that the secret they are supposed to keep won’t be found out. I know that a lot of terrible acts against people are committed in secret. These acts can stay secret for a long time, some may even stay secret for a lifetime here on earth. However, nothing is secret from God. He knows all things. There isn’t a single thing that you or anyone else can do that is a secret from God.
Some people may not like this. They may feel this is a bad thing because God can see all we do and we don’t always do the right thing. However, I think this is a good thing. Not only can God see all that we do, but He can see into our heart as well. Sometimes we can seem like we are doing things for the right reasons. We can appear to be walking the walk of a good Christian and the whole time our hearts may be in it for the wrong reasons. We may be trying to deceive someone, or maybe trying to deceive ourselves. On the other hand, we may be doing all the wrong things, but for the right reasons. I think this happens a lot more than we think. I think we get it wrong a lot, and yet we have a pure heart and the best of intentions. I am thankful God can see into our hearts and knows that we weren’t trying to screw everything up.
When the verse says, “what I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops,” I think of how many things our mind tells us in the dark. I don’t think many of them are from God. I think this advice is great advice for anything that you hear in the dark. All those negative thoughts that we have are not from the Lord. Those are from the enemy and they are lies. They are not our truths and yet we accept them and we hold onto them because we are afraid to bring them into the light. We are afraid that if we bring these thoughts into the light, then others will know these things. We believe that others will believe them and then they may not like us anymore. Or even worse, we are afraid that if we bring these thoughts into the light it will make them true. This could not be further from the truth, and the enemy knows this.
The enemy knows that if you were to bring all these negative thoughts into the light, other people would see how ridiculous they were and they would call you on it. They would reassure you that these things are not true. It is so easy to see the enemies lies in other people’s lives. Have you ever noticed this? Have you ever had a friend tell you the negative thoughts they are feeling and you wonder why the would believe it? You hear them and you can’t even believe that they would think that. Even strangers, people you don’t even know that well, if they were to tell you the negative thoughts the enemy has been whispering to them, you would recognize right away that it was the enemy talking.
I had this happen to me at a conference once. We had to write down all the awful thoughts that swirl around in our head. You know the ones I am talking about, the ones that tell us we aren’t good enough, we aren’t pretty enough, we don’t do enough. It is usually some version of “we aren’t enough.” Anyway at this conference we needed to write down all these thoughts. Then we were asked to be brave enough to share these thoughts with someone sitting next to us. Someone we didn’t know. I paired up with this beautiful young girl who was the mama of a 2 year old and was pregnant with twins. Here are some of the thoughts that she had in her head, “I’m not a good mom.” “I won’t be a good mom to these twins either.” “I am not attractive to my husband.” “I’m not good at anything.” I don’t think any of you listening to this have to meet this young lady to know that none of these things are true.
Why do we do this to ourselves? Well, we are not doing it, the enemy is, but why do we let him? Why do we allow him control over our thoughts? Why do we allow him to rent space in our brain? When will we learn to evict him the moment he starts talking. I just got a great visual of pressing this button anytime we get a negative thought and it ejects Satan right out of our mind. How great would that be? This button does not exist, not matter how much we would like it to. However, we can ask God to come into these thoughts and we can tell Satan to leave. We do have power over him thanks to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. I know it is hard, and I know we all think it is easier to leave these thoughts in the dark and not talk about them. But let’s listen to God, let’s bring these thoughts into the light. I know this verse is not talking about the negative thoughts we get from the enemy, but when I read this verse I feel this is the message that the Holy Spirit wanted me to pass on to you.
The next time you start to have negative thoughts and the enemy starts to tell you who you are, you can stop him right in his tracks and tell him that you know who you are. You are a son or daughter of Jesus Christ the King. You are made in the likeness and image of the Lord our God. You are more than enough and God loves you just as you are, flaws in all. Shine a light on those fears that you have as well. All those fears and insecurities that you have breed in the darkness. They grow stronger when you leave them in the dark. Bring them into the light. Share them with a loved one, a friend, or the Lord. Yes, He knows what they are, and He still wants you to share them with him yourself. You can be free of these thoughts and these fears if you want to. Just keep reminding yourself who you are and whose you are.
Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that you bless all those listening to this episode today. Lord help us to shine a light on all those things that the enemy wants us to keep in the darkness. Help us to shout your words from the roof tops. Help us to know who we are and that we are enough because we are made in your likeness and image. Help us to stand firm in the fact that we are your sons and daughters and you love us just as we are. We are so very thankful that you love us and that you chose us Lord Jesus. You are so very amazing and we love you! We ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus holy name, Amen!
Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. Next week’s character trait is committed. How can we be more committed? I look forward to spending time with you again on Monday. Have a blessed weekend!
